Inference and Informational Text

Inferencing is something we do all the time, but often students don’t realize this is a skill they naturally use. Ms. Ramsey uses a simple photograph to help her students recognize all the information they can infer from the photo. This is used as a springboard into having the students work together to determine what they can infer from passage they read.

Things to watch for:

• Teacher modeling and encouraging of class discussion
• Encouraging the students to make predictions before they read
• Students work together as a whole class, then break into partner groups
• Classroom management tips: Clap with me 10 times “0, and business”
